Welcome to my blog – the life of an ordinary woman writer.

In my last blog, Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro (an ordinary woman seeks to conquer Mt. Kilimanjaro), I chronicled my year-long pre-training for ascending the highest free-standing mountain in the world and my six-day ascent to the Kibo summit. If you want to read that blog, you can find it at janicecoy.blogspot.com-Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. I put a flag counter on the blog; it’s fun to see the home countries of people who have visited the blog. So far, more than 12,000 people have visited my Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro blog. Lots of people want to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, and I’m happy my blog has helped them.

The climb was so different from anything I’ve experienced or expected, I knew while I was on the Machame trail I wanted to use the mountain as the setting of my second novel A Table on Kilimanjaro.

This time around, I plan to blog about a variety of topics, and perhaps to post some flash fiction. Flash fiction is a very short, short story, usually not more than 700 words. I used to write more of them when I would go to an open mic night where authors were limited to three minutes of sharing. Those who went over were buzzed off the stage.

Maybe I’ll even post some poetry. We’ll see.

One of my favorite poets is Mary Oliver. Whenever I read one of her poems, I’m so inspired by her use of language that I think about how much fun it would be to write poetry. But I never seem to actually do it. This will be a challenge for the ordinary woman!

I’m hoping my third novel will be published soon. I’m shooting for August. Because I’m busy working to meet that deadline, my plan is to post blogs at least twice a month for now. Maybe something big will happen, and I’ll post a third blog. Maybe I’ll write a poem – ha!
